Germaine Galjour

A local artist produces Big Art in small-town Bakersville.

I am a self-taught artist of French-Cajun descent. I was born in New York City while our dad studied opera at Julliard. As a result, I grew up visiting the most influential art museums in the world. It is from this early influence that I grew to aspire to the arts.

I have lived in France, making a home in Paris, Toulouse, and the Cote d’Azur. Then the storm of the century struck my lovely New Orleans. Finally, after Hurricane Katrina passed, the waves tossed me all the way into the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

"I prefer not to be known for only one style of work."

I spent years combing art books on technique and applied theory as I gained resourcefulness. I arrived at several styles of painting in several art mediums that I use today. This versatility produces unique themes that work well personally with collectors, galleries, and interior decorators. I prefer not to be known for only one style of work.

I formerly painted “on the fence” in Jackson Square in New Orleans.
